BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE
Meeting – Tuesday, April 20, 2010

The minutes of the meeting held March 23, 2010, were reviewed and amended to read that Sara Fiore is picking up and donating ice for the Clean Sweeps event. The minutes were approved as amended.
The Chair called the meeting to order at 7:32 P.M.
Minutes
- Clean Sweeps, May 1st – Ellen reported that five neighborhood groups have indicated their intention to participate. The Salem Harbor CDC, the Cub Scouts and some schools are also expected. Ellen is waiting to hear from others and will be contacting more schools after Spring Break. If needed she will send Committee members the names of other possible volunteers to contact. Participants with tickets will be offered Dominoes pizza slices at noon. Marcia has cups, plates and napkins. Committee members are asked to meet Thursday evening, April 29th in order to put equipment and supply packages together. Supervisors for Clean Sweep designated cleanup sites can pick up packages and equipment at the Common after 8:00 Saturday morning..
- Plant Sale, May 15 and 16, 2010 - It was decided to hold the sale on both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday morning hours will be 8:30-12:30. Sunday hours will be 11:00 – 2:00 P.M. Amy is to contact Darlene of Flowers by Darlene regarding stock to be provided plus pricing. The collection and gathering of home grown garden plant stock was discussed. Some Committee members have plants to offer and some offered their driveways as collection points. It was suggested that others can bring their plants to the Common on Saturday morning. Maryanne and others will solicit volunteers. Volunteer staff should arrive at 7:30 on Saturday and 10:00 on Sunday. Laminated signs will be available.
- Traffic Islands - The Salem Planning and Development Committee – has asked this Committee to look at the five islands that have been created by the street re-construction project at Congress and Ward streets in the Point. Sandi reported that the islands need mulch. Ellen will look into the availability of water. Sandi is to contact Lucy Corchado regarding the development and maintenance of the site.
